Local High School Students Make Connections with Area Employers During Construction Career Day Events
The demand for workers in the construction trades continues to grow, and the York Builders Association (YBA) is committed to spreading awareness about the tremendous career opportunities available locally through events like Construction Career Days. The second annual event took place over several days and included five host companies and nine area high schools. Approximately 80 students participated.
York Builders Association Launches Workforce Now Brand Focused on Addressing The Skilled Labor Shortage
The York Builders Association (YBA), the community?s trusted building industry resource, recently launched a new brand initiative. The WorkforceNOW brand will serve as the umbrella which covers all of YBA?s programs designed to support workforce development.
YBA’s Construction Career Days are a fabulous opportunity to share an insider’s view of your company with local students in the community who are interested in learning about potential career paths in the skilled trades.
Over the last several months the York Builders Association’s (YBA) Workforce Committee put a lot of time and effort into planning our first Construction Career Days events, which took place on April 16 – 18. Outreach to schools and students is a major focus of our strategic plan. During a meeting with York County Economic Alliance, we were approached with the offer to take over their construction day program previously held in April 2017. It was a perfect fit for our new goals and objectives and the association’s Board of Directors approved the adoption of the program.
YORK, PA – Skilled labor in residential construction is a commodity in short supply and the York Builders Association (YBA) is looking to change that by launching their first annual Construction Career Day events on April 16, 17 & 18. The objective of the program is to build awareness among high school students about the diverse career opportunities available to them locally in the construction industry.
In April of this year, the York County Economic Alliance (YCEA) launched its pilot event, Construction Career Day, in cooperation with Stewart & Tate and an area high school. The program was developed to mirror YCEA’s successful Manufacturing Days program, which started in 2015. The York Builders Association’s Board of Directors have approved the request for YBA to adopt the Construction Career Day event.
The York Builders Association Board of Directors recently approved the creation of a volunteer committee to focus on career awareness in the trades, developing resources and strengthening career advising.? Our hope is to achieve more skilled workers to fill the jobs of today and tomorrow.
