PA Department of Labor & Industry Awards $250,000 Grant to York County Building Trades Pre-Apprenticeship Program
The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry Schools-to-Work Program recently awarded a $250,000 grant to partner host organizations YBA Workforce NOW® Foundation and the York County Alliance for Learning (YCAL) for their Building Trades Pre-Apprenticeship Program.
The YBA Workforce NOW® Foundation, an operating foundation, and a subsidiary of the York Builders Association, recently launched a Construction Pre-Apprenticeship program in partnership with the York County Alliance for Learning – YCAL. 27 high school seniors from 11 local school districts are participating in the 2022-2023 program.
The York Builders Association (YBA) recently awarded two scholarships to high school seniors through their Trade & Tool Scholarships. The scholarships were presented to high school seniors entering a trade school or entering the building trades workforce.
Aside from a lack of awareness about the many benefits of careers in construction, the skilled trades have also faced the challenge of a perception problem through the years.

Now in its third year, YBA’s 2022 Construction Career Day events took place over several days and included seven host companies, 11 area high schools, and homeschooled students. Approximately 70 students participated.
